Claire’s Story

Master of International Relations student Claire is one of a growing number of care leaver students studying at La Trobe University.

Having overcome adversity to attain a university education, Claire is now a passionate advocate for inclusion at La Trobe and is determined to improve the university experience for all who come after her. Claire says:

“I know what it is to be terrified and have limited options, seeing before you a lifetime of living on the periphery of society. If I could go back in time and talk to the homeless teenage me, living on the streets, the one thing I would say is that you will actually finally get an education.”

Claire has received support from La Trobe and was recently granted a Golden Lanyard Scholarship which has supported her to stay engaged as a student whilst also raising her own family.
